St. John’s Prep plays one of the toughest football schedules in the state. On top of their league
games, they play teams like Brocton, Central Catholic, etc. and always play on Thanksgiving against a good Xavarian High School.
This season, the Prep began with a very young team after losing 23 players to graduation.
The tough schedule remained
for the young team, and out of some adversity came sophomore Jonathan Thomas. On Thanksgiving, Thomas carried the 29 times,
gained 202 yards, scored 2 touchdowns, one a brilliant 37 yard run where he broke several tackles and brought St. John’s
back from a 3 touchdown deficit to against one the teams originally thought to be in the Boston Globe’s top 10. On the
play previous to his TD run, Thomas picked up 38 yards on an off tackle play to set up his touchdown run.
St. John’s
scored twice in the final quarter, one on Jon Thomas’ second TD to close the gap to 28-21 with just a minute and a half
left in the game. An unsuccessful onsides kick ended the contest.
Jon Thomas averaged nearly 7 yards a carry….and
he and most of his teammates will be back for the 2012 season.
